Christ Lutheran Church

Pastor’s Message

In a country like Canada, we have so much for which to be thankful with the democratic freedoms we enjoy.  The freedom to worship as we please is an important one.  As the busy Christmas season approaches, let's remember to take time out to prepare for and celebrate the birth of Christ by attending Advent and Christmas services. In order to grow in the faith we need to expose ourselves to God's Word, regular worship and receiving the Lord's Supper.  That takes discipline and a commitment to set aside other things which may seem more important.

Our Christian education programs at Christ Lutheran include adult Bible Discussion groups, Sunday School, a summer Vacation Bible School and confirmation instruction.   Sunday School is a great way to introduce children to the Bible stories and songs every child should know.  Our 2 year Confirmation program gives the youth aged 12 and up a great foundation in teachings of the Christian faith which includes the Ten Commandments and Lord's Prayer.  This is particularly important in the face of many competing faiths in today's world.  For adults we have an inquirer's class which explains the Lutheran teachings with no obligation to join upon completion.  Many members have taken the 10 session God For Us course as a refresher.  The Youth program also provides opportunities for spiritual growth as do our ladies activities.  As people face challenges in their lives, they find insights from the Bible in a small group setting to be a tremendous source of comfort and strength.

For others, singing or playing in one of our 3 music ensembles provides encouragement and growth in musical skills.  And of course, gathering each Sunday for worship is the highlight of the week where we "recharge our batteries" in God's presence and with other believers.   Friends are made as the God's Word and the Sacraments of Baptism and the Lord's Supper are shared.  We want to share with all people, here and abroad, the good news of peace between God and mankind.

St. Paul reminds us that God establishes peace with people through his Son, Jesus Christ who came to this earth for the express purpose of taking away the barrier of sin which separates each of us from a holy God and from each other.  Jesus did that by living an innocent and holy life and then dying with the enormous burden of the sins of the world on his shoulders.  The prophet Isaiah wrote, “But He was pierced for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon Him, and by his wounds we are healed” (Is.53:5).

When the Holy Spirit working through God’s Word brings us to faith in Jesus and what he did for us, we have peace with God.  And that peace and serenity carries over into all of our relationships.   At Christ Lutheran we want to have a place where peace, love and forgiveness are experienced by all who come.   May 2011 find you growing in the knowledge and love of God and may he bless you and your family richly.

We look forward to seeing you.
